The Small Things That Help Us Heal: Kia Lee’s Sleep Story

Healing in the Spaces Between Treatment

When I was going through breast cancer treatment, I became focused on one thing: healing.

Like many survivors, I learned quickly that recovery is not only about finishing chemotherapy, surgery, or radiation. It is also about everything that happens in the spaces between - the thousands of small decisions we make each day to support our bodies.

Nutrition.

Movement.

Stress management.

Sleep.

One of the biggest challenges for me throughout treatment - and especially after being placed into medically induced menopause - was sleep.

When Night Sweats Became My New Normal

During chemotherapy, I was often awake at 2 or 3am, unable to stay asleep. The night sweats became relentless. I would wake up completely drenched, sometimes all the way through to the mattress.

I kept both the air conditioner and a fan running because I constantly felt like a furnace.

Like many women, I adapted. I slept without pyjamas or in a simple tank top because I wanted to stay cool. I was also worried about accidentally scratching my reconstructed breast.

I accepted that this was simply my new normal.

Unsure Whether Pyjamas Could Really Help

When I first heard about Whisp sleepwear, I honestly was not convinced that pyjamas could make much of a difference.

I was wrong.

The first thing I noticed was how incredibly soft and breathable the fabric felt. Although I was used to sleeping without pyjamas, I was surprised to find that I actually felt more comfortable wearing Whisp.

The sleepwear did not feel restrictive, and in my experience I was not waking throughout the night searching for relief from overheating.

Over time, I noticed something even more important: I was sleeping more deeply.

Feeling More Rested During Recovery

I woke feeling more rested, with more energy during the day, and my nights became much less disrupted by overheating and night sweats.

That surprised me.

As breast cancer survivors, we spend so much time focusing on appointments, medications, nutrition, and exercise that it can be easy to overlook how important our sleep environment is.

I have come to believe that healing is rarely one big thing. It is a collection of small choices that support our bodies day after day.

For me, Whisp became one of those choices.

A Small Choice That Supported My Comfort

Pyjamas are not a cure or a recovery solution on their own. But creating a cooler, softer, and more comfortable sleep environment helped me give rest the attention it deserved.

If another survivor asked me whether Whisp is worth trying, my answer would be yes.

Not because everyone will have exactly the same experience I did, but because creating the best possible environment for restorative sleep can be one of the most meaningful forms of care we give ourselves after treatment.

Healing does not happen all at once.

Sometimes it begins with something as simple as a better night's sleep. And sometimes the smallest choices become the ones that help us heal.
